do you think you are a food snob?

I used to think I wasn’t… but I often find that my expectations of restaurants are often far from met.  For the prices that are charged at many places here in Austin (and other places for that matter), the food should be to-die-for.  Example: food at Trace, the W Austin restaurant, was mediocre at best.  The pizza at the new Coal Vines restaurant, also found in the W, was far inferior to cheaper versions at Home Slice.  And so I return to getting recos, finding good recos online, and returning to old favorites, rather than spending my money in places that make me feel like a food snob.

any place that can make my friend Vanessa get that Asia feeling, is tops in my book.  That and the kitty that smiled at me from on top of the table.  Good Indian food, close to favorite bars, and I can bring Frankie;-)

but if you never try, you’ll never know.

I keep meeting people going gluten-free.

no carbs… no wait we need carbs…  no fat… no, no - some fat is good.  and now no gluten - wait, what the hell is gluten?  I found myself asking this enough to look it up and the wise internet spawned a few helpful articles below.  Summary: Gluten is a protein found in wheat.  People who have celiac disease should not eat gluten.  You can also have a gluten-intolerance (just like dairy…) but I’m not sure if the symptom link will be too obvious.  Me?  I’ll keep eating gluten in moderation, because I’m not seeing any wacky symptoms with the exception of occasional fatigue.  What I will do is start taking a multi-vitamin which I’ve been meaning to do since my days of Flinstone vitamins=)

I’ve eaten more BBQ in the last year than I have in the previous 15 years of my life.  To blame, in order of sublime taste… Franklin’s BBQ, Rudy’s, Salt Lick, Iron Works.
